Job Summary

Payment Processor position is responsible for posting insurance carrier, facility, collection agency, government agencies and business office patient payments to practice management system, using established policies and procedures.

Major Responsibilities

  • Posts payments and adjustments exceptions from an electronic file, and ensures each batch is balanced daily
  • Posts payment and adjustments from bank lock-box and ensures each batch is balanced daily
  • Posts other types of payment and adjustments from collection agency, interoffice transfers, time of service and credit card payments
  • Reviews Explanation of Benefits to assure proper payment and adjustment has been received
  • Verifies appropriate financial classification status is loaded into registration

Minimum Requirements

    • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical back office role or centralized business office environment
    • Knowledge of insurance payment processing and able to read EOBs
    • Ability to calculate deductible and co-insurance correctly
    • Strong knowledge of the Accounts Receivable process
    • Excellent phone, communication, organizational skills, computer skills and mathematical skills
    • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
    • Medical Terminology & Insurance
    • Ability to understand basic medical terminology
